The auditorium of Pridwin Preparatory School buzzed with excitement on Thursday, May 23, as the annual art auction took centre stage. Themed When Art Comes to Life, this year’s event showcased the immense talent and creativity of the learners and their teachers, who worked tirelessly to produce stunning artistic expressions.

Each class collaborated to create three unique artworks, resulting in a total of 38 pieces that were auctioned off during the evening. This collective effort highlighted the learners’ creativity and the importance of teamwork and dedication within the school community.

Chairman of the board Motlatsi Mutlanyane said, “This is one of the highlights of the school year. We look to use this event to bring the community together and to fundraise for the school.”

The Pridwin Parents Association (PPA), in collaboration with the junior school teachers, organised the fundraiser to support the enhancement of the learning and play environment for all junior prep boys. Previous auctions have contributed significantly to the school’s development.

Grade 2 mom Justine Bellugi states, “It was just amazing to collaborate with incredible moms to pull off such an important event – where we could be part of the Pridwin community and proudly raise funds for the school.”

Since the inception of the Junior Art Auction in 2015, funds raised have transformed various school areas, benefiting the learners’ educational experience.

The evening was not only a fundraising event but also a celebration of the incredible talent and creativity of Pridwin’s junior boys. The showcased artworks captivated parents with their exceptional quality, demonstrating the immense effort and creativity invested by both learners and teachers, far beyond personal connections.

Chairperson of the PPA Sarah Thabethe says, “It’s a beautiful community event for the junior parents and the junior community to bid on the art the children have spent time collaborating with different artists. The idea is to raise funds but to celebrate the arts that the teachers and learners have created.”

Art was the centrepiece of the night with its power to transcend boundaries and evoke emotions. As parents bid on the remarkable pieces, they were encouraged to immerse themselves in the stories and passion behind each artwork. The event highlighted the potential of these young artists, with hopes that some might follow in the footsteps of successful alumni like Jake Singer.

The funds raised will be allocated to a variety of projects, from a new Grade 0 classroom and the enclosure of the Grade 3 and Ed Tech corridor to new lockers, AstroTurf for the junior playground, and additional playground equipment. Every bid placed was a commitment to nurturing the learners and ensuring that Pridwin remains a premier boys’ prep school.

As the event came to an end, the atmosphere was filled with a profound sense of unity and collective purpose. The teachers, organising committee, and most importantly, the learners, had brought to life an evening that will be remembered not just for its artistic achievements but for its contribution to the future of Pridwin Preparatory School.
