Despite overcast skies on January 18, St Katharine’s School was alive with energy and purpose as learners, parents, and Jumping Kids beneficiaries came together for the annual Swimathon. This much-loved tradition, held in honour of Victoria Barry, united the school community in support of a cause close to their hearts.

Victoria Barry, a cherished St Katharine’s alumna and Jumping Kids ambassador, lost her leg, and later her life, to cancer. Her unwavering spirit and commitment to helping others inspired the school to forge a lasting partnership with Jumping Kids, a NGO dedicated to empowering children with limb mobility challenges through prosthetics and support.
The Swimathon sees learners secure sponsorships based on the laps they complete, with proceeds directed to Jumping Kids’ impactful initiatives. This year’s funds will aid in refurbishing The Hope School Rehabilitation Centre, extending the organisation’s reach to even more children in need.
Headmistress Alison Jennings highlighted the event’s significance. “Compassion, one of our core values, was in action at the Swimathon. The generosity of our extended St Katharine’s community made the event the success it was. We’re proud to continue the legacy of the Barry family and our partnership with Jumping Kids.”
