In efforts to locate a suspected longstanding leak, Johannesburg Water has excavated Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenues, as well as the pavement near the Car Mania dealership.

A journalist visited the excavations on December 21 and was met with a few broken and leaking pipes, as well as water, which collected as a result of the persistent wet weather.

Ward 90 councillor Renate van Onselen said, although she was not sure why Johannesburg Water was excavating the two pavements, she was aware that water always seeped from them. “There was a long-standing leak at that intersection, so hopefully that is what’s being fixed.”
