Repair of broken storm water drain in Lyndhurst continues to drag

According to JRA to depot promised to repair the excavation on January 30, but Lyndhurst is still waiting.

The broken storm water drain, which began as a blocked and flooded drain on 2nd Avenue in Lyndhurst, continues to pose a danger to pedestrians, causing backed-up traffic as Johannesburg Roads Agency delays to repair it.

The publication first visited the site last month, alerting JRA to the flooding, which was quickly attended to. However, the dig site, and the damaged storm water drain, still persist.

Ward 81 councillor Joanne Horwitz, on February 10, urged the roads agency to repair the dangerous excavation. “The excavation was created more than a month ago. It is on a busy road which necessitates its urgency to be repaired.”

JRA spokesperson Bertha Scheepers confirmed, on February 9, that the excavation repair date was escalated. “According to the response from the depot we sent to you, the depot promised to do repairs on January 30. We have escalated and will revert.”

In the meantime, motorists and pedestrians need to navigate another hole in South Africa’s roads.
