Residents reconnect with Ward 90 councillor

Craighall residents enjoyed a warm Tea and Talk with councillor Renate van Onsellen, exploring ways to make a difference in their community.

The Craighall Residents Association (CRA) hosted a lively Tea and Talk session on Wednesday morning, giving residents the chance to meet their newly elected Ward 90 councillor, Renate van Onsellen. The Wesleyan Church Hall in Craighall Park buzzed with conversation as neighbours connected over tea, cake, and community issues.

Van Onsellen shared her personal motivation for public service, explaining her commitment to addressing societal challenges, holding government accountable, and fostering unity within the community.

As Ward 90’s representative, she emphasised her role as a bridge between residents and the city council. While she cannot directly resolve every service issue, her focus is on escalation, follow-up, and long-term solutions through policy development.

Discussions touched on pressing city service challenges, including the recent water main bursts affecting Johannesburg reservoirs, ongoing sewer replacement projects, and the financial limitations faced by Johannesburg Water.

Van Onsellen also reminded residents of the power of their vote, highlighting how informed participation in elections can shape the city’s future and improve the quality of life.

The session offered residents a chance to meet their councillor, ask questions, and connect with neighbours. By the end of the morning, it was clear that tea, cake, and conversation had not only sparked dialogue but also strengthened community connections.
