Ward 74 councillor concerned by excavations that are not tarred after repairs
JRA to tar an excavation that was repaired by Johannesburg Water at The Gardens.
Ward 74 councillor, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku is growing frustrated about the number of excavations that are not tarred after the completion of repairs.
A reporter and Kayser-Echeozonjoku visited the corner of Grove and High Road at The Gardens on March 17, where there is a repaired excavation that has not been tarred, with Johannesburg Water cones surrounding it and chunks of tar on the side.
The councillor said, “I am once again at another Johannesburg Water issue that involves an incomplete repair. This site shows that Johannesburg Water may have repaired something by digging up the road, but has left it in this dangerous state.”

She added that this was not the only incomplete site and that it is a major safety hazard especially because it is on the corner of a road where a car might drive into it if the light is poor at night.
Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA)’s head of regional operations Khayalethu Khayalethu Gqibitole on March 19 confirmed that inspections were conducted, and that JRA was aware of the excavation carried out by Johannesburg Water.
“An order number will be requested for the reinstatement; repairs are scheduled for the week of March 30 to April 3.”
