The repair turnaround time for the Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenues excavation remains unknown

Traffic lights at the Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenues excavation are finally working after four months.

There seems to be some progress at the Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenues excavation in Craighall.

The traffic lights are working again, but the hole remains a danger to motorists.

A reporter and Ward 90 councillor, Renate van Onselen, visited the excavation on May 2 and noticed a new blue water pipe.

Van Onselen noted that she was unimpressed with the turnaround time from the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA)’s turnaround time and communication.

“Although there is a bit of progress, nothing has been happening at the site for the past two weeks due to the public holidays that have interfered. Johannesburg Water informed me that their staff have been on holiday, which means the excavation is not a priority, because if it were, the site wouldn’t be in this condition five months later.”

The councillor added that JRA will be resuming repairs on May 4.

The publication reached out to JRA on April 28 for an update, but the entity has yet to respond.
