International Women’s Day celebrations in Melrose encourage equity

Affirmation exercises were engaged in by women at the W-suite International Women’s Day celebration as a way of tapping into their superpowers.

Women were encouraged to embrace equity at the W-Suite International Women’s Day celebration held at Melrose Arch.

Speaking at the event on March 17 the CEO of BrandFusion and founder of women empowerment organisation W-Suite, Katie Mohamed said, “We’re talking about equity and how equal opportunities engender empowerment. We’ve realised that there are flaws in equal opportunities despite the 50/50 chant.

“All of us have a unique story and this guides our choices and how we embrace opportunities. When we embrace equity, it affects both our personal and professional choices. We as women have committed to empowering each other.”

Mohamed encouraged women to have a foundation of confidence which in turn equates to change and that on its own was a superpower. “Embracing your superpower means changing your mindset and conditioning during times of hardship.”

Founder of Authentic Movement Zahraa Said engaged with the attendees in reflection exercises. She said spiritual movement translated to mental and physical movement and assisted the attendees to tap into their spirituality and superpowers through affirmation exercises. “For us to tap into equity, we need to make affirmations. Affirmation is a belief system of what you truly believe about yourself. So here we determine what our affirmations are and see if we can shift from a negative to a positive mindset,” added Said.

The women in attendance spent the remainder of the session engaging in affirmation exercises through soft music and mantras.

Mohamed encouraged women to function in ‘collaborative equity’ which meant going out there and sharing what they had learnt with others in a way that would result in positive mindsets.
