City Power’s teams make substantial headway in restoring power to affected areas
3 509 queries were logged across City Power's eight Service Delivery Centres.
City Power continues to make progress in addressing the backlog of outages.
The heavy rainfall and resulting flooding, uprooted trees, and damage to the power utility’s electrical infrastructure, including the underground cables have placed immense pressure on its operations and caused response delays.
However, City Power remains firmly committed to resolving all outstanding power supply interruptions and is working diligently to overcome these obstacles.

City Power on January 6 began the day with 3 509 logged queries across its eight Service Delivery Centres (SDCs).
“The inner city, Hursthill, and Randburg were among the SDCs with many outage calls. On January 6, five medium voltage (MV) outages were reported in the inner city, affecting the Braamfontein, Central, Cleveland, Cydna, and Johnwere Substations,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
In Hursthill, the team began the day with four MV outages affecting the Roosevelt substation (Northcliff North distributor), Forrest Town switching station, Industria substation, which the team is still investigating the cause of the outage, and Roosevelt substation (Montgomery Park distributor).

Mangena added significant progress had been made at the Roosevelt substation (Montgomery Park distributor), with 76% of the power supply restored to customers.
He added some customers would remain without power until access was granted to a Ring Main Unit (RMU) for full restoration to all affected customers. At Roosevelt substation (Northcliff North distributor), our team is on-site exposing the cables in preparation for the jointing process.
“In Randburg, we recorded an MV outage at Morningside substation (6.6kV Incomer 3), affecting customers in Bryanston, River Club, and Morningside. Power has since been fully restored and the team will continue to address other isolated power issues.”
