32 human trafficking hostages make their escape in Lombardy East
Many of the 32 rescued in Lombardy East in Johannesburg were minors says police.

At least 32 foreign nationals were rescued this morning (March 26) after fleeing from a house where they were held hostage.
Authorities are on the scene and have urged residents to avoid Goethe Road, between Wellington and Cromwell Roads, while the situation is secured.
Witnesses reported hearing shouting from the property before seeing half-naked people fleeing in different directions. This is the second reported case of kidnapped undocumented foreigners being held in a house in Lombardy East, raising concerns about ongoing criminal activity in the area.
Gauteng Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said the ages of the people being held at the station are minors, with ages ranging between 13 and 24.
“After being alerted by the community to people running naked in the street…we found 8 of the individuals inside a shop who could not speak any South African language…after searching, we found another 24,” said Masondo.
32 people were brought to Sandringham Police Station, these people were kept against their will he added.

For now, police are looking for the person who kept the people hostage.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to 10111, their security provider, or through the Safer City emergency app.
