Smile Foundation urges South Africans to step out in style for Socks for Smiles campaign
Bright socks could help fund 100 life-changing surgeries for children in need.
The Smile Foundation has launched one of its most colourful and spirited initiatives yet, the Socks for Smiles campaign, to raise R2.5m to provide 100 life-changing reconstructive surgeries for children across South Africa.
On September 19, the foundation is calling on the nation to pull on their brightest, quirkiest socks and wear them with pride. By purchasing a R20 Socks for Smiles sticker, available at Dis-Chem, Cape Union Mart, and Baby City stores nationwide, as well as online via the Smile Foundation website, South Africans can take part in a day dedicated to spreading joy, unity, and hope, with every sticker sold bringing the organisation closer to its fundraising goal.

The campaign has already attracted a host of well-known ambassadors, including Swing City, The Muses, Lady Zamar, DJ Milkshake, John Vlismas, and Miss World South Africa Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg, who will be using their platforms to inspire the public to get involved.
“This is about more than just socks,” said Smile Foundation ambassador Loyiso Bala.
“It’s about doing something simple and fun that can change a child’s life forever.”
Jansen van Rensburg echoed the sentiment, calling the initiative: “A movement that encourages people to stand together and helps children face the future with confidence.”
The foundation is appealing to schools, businesses, universities, and communities to join in, with group sales available for those wanting to make a bigger impact. Companies are also encouraged to sponsor sticker packs for schools in under-resourced areas.

Acting Smile Foundation CEO Moira Gerszt expressed gratitude to all supporters, from retail partners to everyday South Africans. “Every step taken in those socks is a step towards giving a child a smile they deserve.”
Whether heading to work, school, or out for coffee on September 19, South Africans are being urged to let their socks do the talking and help change a life in the process.
