Rosebank Rotary quiz night raises funds for local and global causes

Laughter, friendly rivalry, and generosity filled the Parkview Golf Club as the Rosebank Rotary Club hosted its annual quiz night, raising funds for four remarkable causes.

The Parkview Golf Club buzzed with excitement on November 5, as the Rosebank Rotary Club hosted its much-loved annual fundraising quiz night. The sold-out event saw 100 guests gather for an evening of trivia, laughter, and generosity, all in the name of making a difference.

Now in its fourth year, the quiz evening has become a highlight on the club’s social calendar, blending fun with purpose as Rotarians, family, and friends come together to support those in need.

This year’s proceeds will benefit four inspiring organisations, each changing lives in unique ways. The evening raised an impressive R40 000, which will be distributed among the chosen beneficiaries to help them continue their valuable work within the community.

Among them is PolioPlus, Rotary’s flagship initiative, which has been instrumental in the global fight to eradicate polio since 1985. With more than a 99.9% reduction in cases worldwide, the programme continues to fund immunisation drives to protect children from this preventable disease.

Charity Begins With Me also received support. This local organisation uplifts vulnerable children through feeding schemes, stationery drives, community gardens, and festive celebrations that bring hope to struggling families.

Funds will further assist the Baragwanath Hospital community care programme, which provides vital rehabilitation equipment for the paediatric ward, ensuring that young patients in Soweto receive the best possible care.

The fourth beneficiary, Emmarentia Eventide, a Salvation Army care facility for elderly individuals aged 60 to 75, offers safe and dignified housing for those who rely solely on their Sassa pension. Since its founding in 1976, the home has remained a sanctuary for seniors who might otherwise have nowhere to go.

Chief organiser Sonja Hood said the evening was a wonderful celebration of community and generosity. “It was an incredible night filled with laughter, friendly competition, and generous hearts all around. Events like this show how powerful community spirit can be.”

Hood expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped make the evening possible. “Events like this only succeed because of our incredible donors, our generous guests, our hardworking Rotarians, and, of course, our brilliant quiz master Stu, from The Quiz Guy Johannesburg. Thank you to everyone who made this night unforgettable.”

As the night drew to a close, the laughter lingered and the sense of community shone brightly.

The Rosebank Rotary Club once again proved that when people come together for a good cause, they can change lives… One question, one cause, and one community at a time.
