G20 security triggers rolling closures on Rosebank’s key arterials until Sunday
Oxford Road, Glenhove Road, and Jan Smuts Avenue face intermittent restrictions as world leaders attend the G20 summit, with added disruptions expected from today’s Women for Change national shutdown.
Motorists in and around Rosebank are experiencing rolling road closures and lane restrictions on several major arterial routes as G20 summit security operations continue until November 23.

Key roads affected today include Oxford Road, Glenhove Road, and Jan Smuts Avenue, where traffic is being stopped intermittently to allow official motorcades to pass. The M1 and surrounding urban roads feeding into the Rosebank precinct are also under periodic control, leading to delays especially during morning and afternoon peak hours.
Commuters are advised to use parallel side streets such as Corlett Drive, Sandton Drive, or 11th Avenue where possible to navigate the area more smoothly.

These measures coincide with the nationwide Women for Change shutdown taking place today. The movement has called on South Africans to pause work and spending in protest against gender-based violence, which may further reduce traffic volumes but could create unpredictable flow around gathering points.
The rolling closures and heightened security presence will remain in place across the greater Johannesburg area until the summit concludes on Sunday evening.
Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, monitor live traffic apps, and follow directions from traffic officers on scene.
