Wanderers Junior Cricket calls young players to the crease
With over one hundred eager youngsters already taking part, Wanderers Cricket is opening its arms to even more budding cricketers, as coach Graham McMillian encourages families to join a programme built on passion, learning, and pure love of the game.
Wanderers Junior Cricket continues to bustle with energy as young players take to the field each week for practice and matches.
These practices and matches, forming part of the Central Gauteng Lions (CGL) Junior structure, currently involving approximately 127 children, making the club’s junior programme a lively hub for developing cricketers.

Coach Graham McMillian says the weekly rhythm of cricket is what keeps the children excited about returning. Monday sessions run in the afternoon, from 16:30 until 18:00, and Saturdays are dedicated to age-specific morning practices.
Matches are held on alternate weeks, and the playing format is designed to give everyone a fair chance. Batters retire once they reach thirty-five runs, and every child is encouraged to bowl and bat, which supports the club’s philosophy of full participation. Results take a back seat to enjoyment and steady development.

The programme welcomes boys and girls who play together in mixed teams, and families can take part in both the main season, which runs from September to October, as well as winter cricket, during May and June, through the Jozi Cup.
McMillian emphasised that the cost remains accessible, at about R250 a month, as the club works to debunk the belief that Wanderers is exclusive or unaffordable.
He hopes more children will join and experience the joy and confidence that cricket brings.
