Costumes and camaraderie mark joyful end to Wanderers Bowls season

Festive finals on Boxing Day delivered laughter, colour and an inspiring victory by a 93-year-old bowler

The Wanderers Bowls Club wrapped up its festive season on December 26 with a finals day that proved bowls can be just as much about joy and togetherness as they are about competition.

The Boxing Day showdown brought players together for the final matches of the competition, but with a playful twist.

In the spirit of celebration, men dressed as women and women dressed as men, transforming the normally traditional greens into a lively and humorous spectacle.

The costumes drew smiles and laughter from players and spectators alike, setting a relaxed tone for the day.

Despite the light-hearted atmosphere, the competition remained strong. The finals featured Roy Lampert, Brian Levin and Siggy Meinstein, all of whom had worked their way into the top four after weeks of committed and spirited play.

According to Janis Flexman from Wanderers Bowls, the event was the perfect way to close off a demanding year. She said the focus was simply on having fun, enjoying the game and sharing a special moment as a club.

The highlight of the day came when Meinstein claimed victory.

At 93 years old, his win was met with warm applause and admiration from everyone present. His steady performance and quiet determination served as an inspiring reminder that age is no barrier to excellence on the bowls green.

With laughter, friendly rivalry and a remarkable champion, the club closed its season on a high note, celebrating not just the sport but the strong sense of community that defines it.
