Parktown Boys High School reflects on a year of remarkable achievements in 2024

As 2024 comes to an end, Parktown Boys’ High School celebrates a year marked by significant achievements across sports, arts, and social initiatives.
The school community has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence and resilience.
In sports, the rugby team delivered a thrilling comeback against St Davids, showcasing their determination and skill. Other seasoned teams in rowing, cricket, football, and hockey also made their mark, with the hockey side notably reaching the Aitken final. The basketball and water polo teams displayed an exciting mix of experience and youthful talent, while athletes in racket sports excelled in various competitions.

“Our sports teams have truly embodied our school spirit,” remarked principal Kevin Stippel. “Their dedication and hard work have brought us immense pride.”
The arts and culture scene flourished as well, with learners delivering outstanding performances in drama, traditional dance, and the National Eisteddfod. Participation in the National Children’s Theatre Shakespeare Festival and the successful House Plays competition highlighted the incredible talent within the school. The major production, Sizwe Bansi is Dead, stood out as a significant achievement for the drama department.

In addition to these accomplishments, Parktown Boys has taken proactive steps to address social issues. The introduction of the Parktown Pledge signifies the school’s commitment to combatting discrimination and bullying, supported by the Student Executive Council and the Representative Council of Learners. The Parktown Promise further reinforces the school’s stance against gender-based violence, promoting values of respect and inclusivity.
Looking to 2025, the school remains focused on its Parktown 2027 vision, which prioritises modernisation and community engagement. New roles in facilities management, events coordination, and sports will enhance the school’s infrastructure and enrich the learner experience.
As the year concludes, Stippel expressed gratitude to the dedicated staff, supportive parents, and exceptional learners. “Together, we look forward to a promising 2025 filled with growth and community spirit. Wishing everyone a joyful holiday season and a prosperous New Year.
