We need transformation

ORANGE GROVE - As the youth of Orange Grove, I think its only fair to say how taken aback we are by ward councillor Marcelle Ravid.

I fail to understand how the DA thinks that issuing a press statement can scare us off. They don’t even have the decency of calling a meeting with the Orange Grove Community Forum to understand what the issues we, as a community, face. What Stanley Letsoalo raised was the view of 75 percent of the residents within the community – and, of course, I’m refering to those who are South African citizens. The rest are foreigners.

The DA must not come here and grandstand us by telling the public lies, saying that Ravid is the best councillor produced by them. That’s complete rubbish; in fact it’s a fairytale. No-one is perfect, yes, but one ought to acknowledge when he/she is held liable for their mistakes, and the DA knows nothing about that.

Ravid has focused her attention on the upper suburbian areas of Ward 73. She has never called any public meeting since the MMC of Housing, Dan Bovu, came to this ward.

It’s insipid of the DA to say that the ward councillor is not there to get people jobs. If you look at the article, All systems go, published week ending 24 May, Ravid said she was impressed with the new plan for Rea Vaya in Louis Botha Avenue, and with the potential for new business opportunities. Letsoalo was correct to be vocal about this Rea Vaya project because this is where members of the community should be integrated, via co-operatives and companies.

He was only doing what he was mandated to do by the masses: to call for change in the governance of the ward. Transformation is the only solution.
