Ride for the future

JOBURG - Hearts into the Future Cycle Ride, taking place on Heritage Day on 24 September, will celebrate not only great heritage, but also the hope for the future of living and working together in unity and peace as a diverse nation.

The Galliards Fitness (GFIT) will host a cycle ride for Sacred Heart College and encourages people of all ages to cycle a route around central Johannesburg. The route will connect riders with the past, and remind them of tolerance and respect for all people enshrined within the Constitution.

The ride is aimed at reflecting on the past as well as the hopes for the future, together with raising awareness about xenophobia and the need for all to combat the ever-growing racial divide and unwillingness to help those in need.

Entry to the ride is free and participants are encouraged to come dressed up in their country’s colours and according to the Proudly South African theme.

When you register you will have the option to donate towards the ThreetoSix project, which is run by Sacred Heart and looks after the education and other needs of refugee children and those who have been victims of xenophobia; or the Bicycle Empowerment Network.

After the cycle, riders can stay for the Sacred Heart Music Festival in the afternoon.

The route will start at Sacred Heart College and the 16km ride will commence at 7.30am. It will travel through Observatory down Kallenbach Drive towards the Satyagraha House in Norwood.

Riders will then make their way to the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory and head back up Munro Drive past King Edwards XVII and back to Sacred Heart College.
