Festival celebrating the food market scene
JOBURG – Street food is celebrated in a festival of epic proportions.
We’re loving the street food scene and the people who bring us the food are loving the response, so prep your appetite for the street food festival coming soon.
The booming South African food market scene is being celebrated in a major way, with the Street Food Festival ZA 2016 making its way through Johannesburg from 26 August, and Cape Town from 2 September.
The festival will be taking over Johannesburg’s social hub, Maboneng, during its time in the City of Gold and access to food is not all that buying a ticket will afford you. On 26 August, lovers of street food will have access to a Street Food Dinner inspired by Indian cuisine at the beautiful, historical Cosmopolitan building which stands on Commissioner Street, opposite the Museum of African Design (Moad)
Moad hosts a number of exhibitions throughout the year which changes quarterly. The most recent was the #UltraContemporary#EmergencyArt#Africa exhibition which showcased a number of harrowing stories through the eyes of the artists. The art venue will be taken over to teach the public about art of a different kind – the art of making food.
The Cosmopolitan is a prestigious venue, popular for showcasing urban culture, and has hosted a number of exciting events including the Unlabelled Magazine night market.
On 28 August, Albrecht Street in Maboneng will be taken over by foodies – and by some of our favourite food stalls from the exciting markets around Johannesburg which will take each visitor’s taste buds on a culinary journey like no other. On the same day, foodies need not only taste the food on offer but can also learn all they can about food, beverage pairing and everything in-between, during the Food Talks to be held at Moad.
Get ready for this fusion of food which only comes around once a year and should not be missed.
