MULTIMEDIA: Royal Suave invading the spaces

JOBURG – Rising hip-hop sensation is determined to succeed in the music industry.

Young, upcoming rapper Wanga Mpotulo, affectionately known as Royal Suave, is fast making a name for himself on the music scene.

Mpotulo grew up in the dusty streets of the Eastern Cape in a small town called Elliott but later moved to Johannesburg to pursue his music dream. The rising hip-hop artist is signed under Lingas Entertainment, founded by famous musician, Dr Malinga.

He recently released a new single titled True Story.

The 25-year-old shows his lyrical expertise and flow on True Story as he pours his heart out about how he grew up and also shares his views on the current state of the South African hip-hop industry. “It’s an honour to release my music with the backing of Dr Malinga and Lingas Entertainment. I brought my A game on True Story and I trust that the country will receive the track well,” shared Mpotulo.

He said getting signed was a dream come true for him and he hopes to take full advantage of the opportunity and reach his full potential. “Ever since I joined Lingas Entertainment I have learnt a lot about the music industry. They have really boosted my career.”

The rapper believes in longevity and consistency, and therefore, when making music, he always takes caution not to stray far away from the truth and subjects that affect normal people on a daily basis.

Mpotulo also added that it is very difficult as an upcoming artist to break into the industry, as people are reluctant to listen to new artists. “Most listeners are very comfortable with what they know already, it is very hard for them to adapt to something new – every day they listen to the same artists.”

Having already worked with an envious list of big artists and producers including the likes of Ab Crazy, Josta, Stilo Magolide and Dr Malinga, Mputulo is destined for stardom.

In a highly-competitive hip-hop environment with many upcoming artists breaking through, Mputulo believes that he has what it takes to emulate them. “Competition is very healthy, but on the come-up, I do not see any threats. People are getting too comfortable with what they have,” he expressed.

With the different sound and lyrical prowess that Mpotulo is bringing to the industry, he is set to ruffle a few feathers.

He is currently working on his debut album to be released next year.
