PCA keeps security strategy in place despite lockdown challenges

The Parkmore Community Association (PCA) suburb manager Lori Klein said despite the challenges faced by the community, the association had managed to keep their security strategy in place and even increase patrol services.

“We have had some successes in arresting a number of criminals, and in comparison to surrounding areas, avoid some issues they have had,” added Klein.

The Parkmore community came together at the start of lockdown to support security guards. The initiative was arranged by FasTracKids and Lead Kids schools who offered to house more than 20 security guards on their premises, ensuring they were stationed within the suburb.

“The community was incredible by donating funds towards food, along with beds and bedding required for the guards to have a good night.”

The association also raised funds to assist displaced people and the less fortunate who were given food parcels and clothing.

Klein was also pleased to see the erection of a blue plaque at Driefontein Farmhouse on 15th Street, Parkmore/ River Club.

A particular challenge this year has been keeping the crime rate down and helping residents understand their vulnerabilities.

Advising local residents, Klein said, “Understand what criminals are looking for and the weakness of your home security arrangement. Let your neighbours know if you will be away and ensure there is someone close by to look after your property.”

Klein said the PCA was doing a review of their operations and were working to improve coordination with other areas within the Parkmore area.

“This should help with the efficiency of our security operations.”
