Behind all the Halloween excitement, however, was a bigger purpose: bringing the community together to raise funds and secure sponsorships to improve Shandon Way Park.

Event organisers Shalvinia Naidu and Leilani Gardner were the driving forces behind the initiative, working behind the scenes to make the celebration possible.

Introducing themselves as ‘partners in crime’, Naidu and Gardner shared their excitement about the event and the vision behind it. “The goal and intention was really to fundraise and get sponsorships to improve our park,” Naidu said.

Gardner echoed the sentiment, highlighting the importance of creating a welcoming and safe environment for local children. “We just want to upgrade the park to just create a safe space for the neighbourhood kids to have fun and to feel that they can be free, and this is kind of what this event is about,” she added.

“We just want to thank everybody that’s donated, sponsored and helped us make this event possible,” added Naidu.

While the costumes, candy and Halloween fun made for a memorable day, the real treat was seeing the community unite behind a vision to make Shandon Way Park a safer, more welcoming and enjoyable space for neighbourhood children.
