Teach your child important life skills

The children of the community are in for a treat as local company Infiniti Insurance recently collaborated with author Christina Castle and illustrator Carla Kreuser to create a new book, The Giving Bowl.

Filled with dozens of unique illustrations and bright colours, the book aims to teach children about the principles of insurance at an early age.

According to Infiniti Insurance CEO Sharon Paterson, the book is part of a broad-based approach to contributing to financial education.

“The Giving Bowl is a collaborative initiative that will see the publication distributed to schools through the commitment of both parties to furthering education in the country,” said Paterson.

Castle added that while the storyline was suitable for children as young as four, it would find its main audience among early readers, up to nine years old.

“There is more than just a ‘treat’ in the brightly illustrated children’s story – there is a wonderful lesson aimed at broadening life’s lessons whilst having fun with the brightly illustrated animals,” said Castle.

The book uses the analogy of animals, a bird loses her home and is forced to rebuild without any resources, to explain the concept and importance of insurance.

Paterson encouraged more parents to take a proactive role in teaching their children about life skills.

“Children’s books are repeatedly read and provide the opportunity for parents to ‘have that conversation’. There are so many fun ways in which you can teach your children life skills and spend time with them.

“Children grow up so quickly and then they want to be with their friends, so teach them all the life skills you can while you have their willing attention.”
