Local young achiever, Thuthula Heshu from Brescia House, recently impressed her community with her accomplishments in both ballet and karate.

When asked what inspired her to start ballet and karate, Thuthula shared, “I started karate because I wanted to be strong. For ballet, I wanted to learn how to stretch my body and dance beautifully. I also do swimming, and I like it very much because the water is warm. It feels like I am on holiday when I am in the swimming pool,” she laughed.
Balancing these two demanding activities could be a challenge for many, but Thuthula has a supportive team by her side.
“Ballet is on Saturday mornings and karate is on Monday and Wednesday after school, so I can go to both easily. My nanny and driver help me get everywhere,” she explained.
Thuthula’s path to success has not come without hard work. Preparing for the RAD ballet exam was a test of her dedication.
“My pointy toes, I had to practice every day to get it right.”

Her persistence paid off, as did her year-long preparation for the karate yellow belt.
“I felt excited and happy. I worked hard and practiced for a whole year, and it was really nice to get it.”
In both ballet and karate, Thuthula looks up to her teachers.
“My ballet teacher is amazing, and I would like to dance as well as she does. Sensei is very good, and I always look at him and do what he does when practicing.”
Thuthula has big dreams for the future. In karate, she’s aiming for an orange belt next month, while in ballet, she hopes to advance to the next class.
“For ballet, I do like to wear different ballet costumes and pretty shoes,” she said with a smile.
