Basetsana and Peggy Sue Khumalo to steer Miss SA into a bold new era
In a shift to a new era of Miss South Africa, the Khumalos have stepped up as mentors to the new cohort of Miss SA hopefuls, intent on guiding them through the competition and beyond.
The Miss South Africa organisation is entering a new era, driven by fresh leadership and a renewed focus on youth empowerment across the continent.
At their media briefing, on September 30 at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton, former Miss South Africa titleholders, and business leaders, Mrs Basetsana Khumalo and Peggy Sue Khumalo were appointed as co-chairs of the organisation, marking a significant shift in the platform’s direction.

As part of their new roles, the Khumalos will serve as official mentors to this year’s finalists, guiding them through the competition and beyond.
The two women are expected to bring vision, experience, and purpose to the competition, positioning Miss South Africa, not only as a beauty platform, but also as a space for developing leaders and change-makers.
The move forms part of the organisation’s new era of Miss South Africa strategy, which places youth empowerment at the heart of its work.
“South Africa has the power to nurture leadership and drive social change, not just for our country, but for the continent,” Basetsana Khumalo said.
She added that it is not enough to celebrate success; we must measure impact. “Finalists should always ask themselves: How is my initiative truly changing lives in my community?”

Peggy Sue Khumalo added that, for her, this platform is not only about a crown or a reign of twelve months; it’s about using the title to make a lasting difference.
“The real work is in creating a ripple effect: Inspiring the next generation of women leaders, holding power to account, and showing that women’s voices belong at every table, from business to government.”
The grand finale will take place on October 25 at the SunBet Arena, where the next Miss South Africa will be crowned.
