Johannesburg Water (JW) has confirmed that a repair team has been dispatched to attend to the burst municipal pipe at Benmore Shopping Centre.
According to the Zandfontein depot manager, Tshilidzi Dombo, repair work is expected to begin tomorrow or Wednesday.
The leak, which has persisted for two weeks near Grayston Drive was initially believed to be coming from the shopping centre pipe until they dug up and found that it’s from a municipal line.

This comes after Ward 103 councillor Lynda Shackelford raised concerns about delays and growing service backlogs at JW.
Dombo acknowledged that the recent strike significantly affected operations by creating backlogs. However, he confirmed that all teams have now returned to work. “All teams are back at work, and we now have full capacity.
“The Rand Water supply issues affected us badly as we had to use water tanks to supply water.”
Dombo said they have developed a formal contingency and catch-up plan to address accumulated service requests. “The team are getting more jobs than when in normal operations to cover backlogs.”
