Councillor calls for community involvement in tackling Bryanston infrastructure issues
Ward 103 councillor Lynda Shackleford urged residents to report issues promptly following a three-day sewage overflow on Ballyclare Drive.
Ward 103 councillor Lynda Shackelford has urged residents to become more active in reporting service delivery challenges, following a persistent sewage overflow in Bryanston.
The councillor visited the site on Ballyclare Drive on April 10, where a manhole had been overflowing for three days. Johannesburg Water employees were on site to clear the blockage.

Shackleford raised concerns over the lack of community involvement, saying the issue was brought to her attention on April 9 by only two residents.
“This has been running for three days now. Thank you to the two residents who escalated it to me, only two. We need better active citizenship at the moment within our wards, and I’m asking residents if they can step up a bit.
“When they see something [pipe burst, sewage spills, and water outages] happening, please report it, and please advise me if it’s not done within the second day. There is a turnaround time of 24 hours for Joburg Water as per the service level agreement (SLA).]
She also raised concerns about the ongoing infrastructure failures in the area. “My biggest concern is that this happens when we have burst pipes in the area, and water is isolated for three or more days. Then we get a lot more bursts with sewage in the areas.”
“We need residents to step up. Active citizenship is essential if we want to see faster responses and better service delivery in our communities.”
