Pro Athletico sharpens dribbling

Sandown’s aspiring footballers spent their holiday on the training field learning new skills and discussing the world’s biggest football tournament.

Young footballers from FC Pro Athletico made the most of the school holidays by taking part in a focused training session aimed at improving their dribbling techniques and overall confidence on the ball.

Held in Sandown, the session was led by the club’s founder and head coach, Chris Dlamini, who demonstrated various dribbling techniques before teaching players how to incorporate spin, body movement, and quick footwork to create space and outplay opponents. The players then put the lessons into action through practical drills that challenged their balance, speed, and ball control. Coaches encouraged them to remain patient, creative, and confident when taking on defenders.

“School holidays are the perfect opportunity for our players to keep learning while having fun,” Dlamini said. “Today’s focus was on improving their dribbling and teaching them how to use body movement and spin to beat defenders. The enthusiasm they showed on the field is exactly what we want to see as they continue developing their game.”

One of the players, Sphamandla Nyembe, said: “The training was fun because we got to practise new techniques and also talk about the World Cup. My favourite part was learning how to dribble correctly. It makes me want to keep practising until I can do it confidently in games.”
