Partying with Vetkuk vs Mahoota
SANDTON – DJ duo Vetkuk vs Mahoota hosted their annual SA Music Carnival on 13 March and we've got the details.

The popular music extravaganza, SA Music Carnival was a thrilling time for all who attended.
Taking place at the popular night club, Taboo right in the heart of Sandton on 13 March, it had all the party people dancing till the sun came up. DJ duo Vetkuk vs Mahoota introduced this concept over seven years ago in celebration of South African music. DJ Vetkuk explained the initial inspiration behind the SA Music Carnival.
“The first inception basically of this event was around myself and Mahoota’s birthday because it falls in the same month which is March. So instead of us doing two events, we decided to have one big birthday party,” he said.

As the years went on, birthday celebration events became a trend and was losing its meaning. “Instead of doing it for the birthday, we decided to have a mix of artists, all from different genres under one roof so that’s how the name SA Music Carnival came about.”
It was a fun and fancy affair, Sandtonites came dressed in the best party wear and danced the night away. “Everybody came dressed with the feathers, the glitter and the masks. Because it’s Friday the 13th why this year’s theme is a Nightmare on Gwen Lane. So it was like Halloween in the middle of March,” joked DJ Vetkuk.

As a pre-party for the 2020 DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards which took place on 14 March, the line-up consisted of some award-winning artists.
As this is one of their annual highlights, the DJ duo starts promoting it early on in the year. With thoughts about next years carnival, DJ Mahoota mentioned that he had a great night but rest is needed.

Spending a lot of time in the studio, they intend on releasing their EP at the end of April. “It’s something very interesting that people must look out for, Mahoota who is still a member of Trompies will be releasing an album too.”
Fans can also look forward to their annual Spring Jump-off event which happens in September every year.
The two have a special bond, so it comes as no surprise that they are still longest-running house music duos in South African music history. “We might be from different mothers, but we are brothers,” said DJ Vetkuk.
