SECOND year food and beverage management students of The International Hotel School Sandton Campus spent the day baking biscuits with Chef Richard Daye to mark International Chefs Day.
The biscuits and two boxes of apples were donated to non-profit organisation, Soul Provider. In turn, the food will be distributed to needy children and families in the Johannesburg area and Alexandra.
The organisation has become aware of the enormous amount of perfectly edible food that is disposed of by hotels, restaurants, casinos and entertainment venues, and thus introduced the Soul Provider Project. The project collects any leftover foods from these kitchens and distributes it to those in need.
They currently support 27 places of refuge which feed an estimated 2 500 people. The hotel school will continue to get involved with the project to assist in doing good for the community, because they believe that sharing is caring.
