Donate a teddy and make a child smile

With the festive season underway, it’s time to give back and be happy while doing it.

Rivonia-based company Jozi Active is on a mission to gift more than 500 teddy bears to children stuck in government hospitals and homes.

Founder and business owner Brett Palframan said some of these children wouldn’t receive anything this Christmas and giving them something small was sure to put a smile on their faces.

Having partnered with a number of charities and NPO’s throughout the year, Palframan said it was really important to also do something for Christmas.

“There is a lady who does this every single year and she wasn’t able to facilitate it herself this year and so we took it upon ourselves to get involved and collect the teddy bears on her behalf,” he said.

Palframan and his team would donate the teddies to children who don’t really have much time left, who are in homes or in hospital.

“They need some sort of love over Christmas and our goal was 500 but of course we would actually like to donate about 1 000.”

To date they have collected 326 bears. There is also a back-a-buddy campaign for those outside of Johannesburg who would also like to help.

“With this, donors can contribute to the cause and we will buy the bear on their behalf to give to a child. The places where we are going to purchase the bears will be from charity stores so it will be sort of a double whammy for the charity as well.”
