Woodmead author celebrates second self-published book
WOODMEAD – All Pfano Muhs's hard work and commitment proved to be worth it when he was able to see his work in its physical form as well as observe the enjoyment that others received from it.
Self-published author and Woodmead resident Pfano Mush introduced his next piece, The Sandton Can Of Worms.
Originally from Ngovhela, a village in Limpopo, this inspiring creative has always had a passion for writing. “Being an author has always been part of my goals, it’s something that I wanted to be after discovering that I have so many stories to tell. There are many other writing forms that I’d like to take on like scriptwriting for television shows,” he said.
At the age of 17, Mush was tasked by the Nelson Mandela Children’s Parliament to start a youthful development project either in the community or at school. “I [then] started a drama club with a friend at school where I wrote stage plays to educate while entertaining learners. “That’s when I discovered my writing talent and from there I never looked back,” he said.
To pursue his love for writing, Mush moved to Woomead after passing matric in 2016 to study a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communications at Varsity College. The journey thus far has truly been one to remember for the writer, especially after making the decision to self-publish.
According to Mush, this decision was made when he published his first book Fictions of His Life in 2018. “I took that decision because no publisher wanted to publish short stories for whatever reason. I did not let that stop me because I was determined to get my stories out there. “Two years later we have The Sandton Can Of Worms, a novella, my second book, which I was more than excited to publish myself because I love taking challenges.”
All of the hard work and commitment proved to be worth it when Mush was able to see his work in its physical form as well as observe the enjoyment other received from it. “The experience of seeing people’s faces light up when they are holding my book. Seeing them happy because of something that I produced always makes my day.
“This journey has been a rollercoaster. There were many ups and downs but I enjoy it because it is part of the process. Writing as a career is still not taken seriously in South Africa and I am one of the people who will work tirelessly to ensure that this craft is respected and not looked down upon.”
