Be proactive this holiday season – Hope to Heal
HURLINGHAM – According to founder Seema Naidoo in her year-end reflection, while the community is in need of this holiday season, criminals will continue to take advantage of every opportunity to exploit people.
The Hope to Heal Foundation would like to encourage members of the community remain proactive and vigilant this holiday season.
The non-profit organisation is aimed at supporting women and children who have been affected by violence and abuse, advocating for better quality, compassionate, and non-judgmental services for victims of domestic violence and child abuse.
According to founder Seema Naidoo in her year-end reflection, while the community is in need of this holiday season, criminals will continue to take advantage of every opportunity to exploit people.
“At this difficult time when so many are suffering the consequences of economic crisis, criminals are using this opportunity and becoming ever more creative in their illicit endeavours in exploiting the most vulnerable, stealing freedom for profit,” she said.
Naidoo added that while everyone was focusing on the economic crisis, the pandemic had opened a breeding ground for criminals in human trafficking – a serious crime and a grave violation of a person’s human rights and an egregious assault on its victims.
“It is especially important for parents to ensure children are not left unsupervised in public areas. Parents should initiate awareness talks on human trafficking and cyber-crime as children are vulnerable on online platforms.”
