WOODMEAD – Xulu explained that they were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a hijacked car and possession of stolen property.

Sandton police have arrested six men allegedly linked to the so-called Rolex gang operating in Sandton.

A spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station Captain Bheki Xulu said the Provincial Specific Crime Unit embarked on a focused crime intelligence operation on 17 February.

Six men aged between 29 and 47, driving two cars (a white Honda Civic and silver Opel Utility) believed to be scouting for victims with expensive watches were monitored by police from corner to corner.

“They were cornered by police at the corner of Western Service Road and Woodlands Drive in Woodmead in possession of two unlicensed firearms, one hijacked motor vehicle linked to a case in Sandton, a suspected stolen watch and suspected stolen cell phones.”

Xulu added that they were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of the stolen property.

He said the suspects were expected to appear in court soon and it was possible that they would be linked with related robbery cases.
