Mediclinic Sandton warns against fake social media messages

BRYANSTON – While the hospital is currently experiencing high volumes of patients with Covid-19 related conditions, it is still able to receive and accommodate patients.

Mediclinic Sandton urges the community to be aware of fake and misleading messages circulating on social media with regards to the closure of the facility.

According to chief clinical officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa, Dr Gerrit de Villiers, while the hospital is currently experiencing high volumes of patients with Covid-19 related conditions, it is still able to receive and accommodate patients.

“Mediclinic is taking all the necessary precautions to manage the current demand.”

De Villiers noted that elective surgery cases at Mediclinic Sandton have temporarily been suspended to reduce the pressure on the facility as well as limit the risk to nurses, doctors and other additional staff and patients.

“For the same reason, visiting hours have been adjusted as an additional measure to reduce risk.”

Visitation for non-Covid-19 patients is permitted with one visitor per day between 3pm and 3.30pm.

Exceptions to these visiting hours include NICU, paediatrics and the maternity unit where current arrangements remain.

“Mediclinic Sandton is in constant contact with hospitals within the area to understand the demand for care at each facility and best manage the flow of patients,” said De Villiers.

Members of the public were strongly recommended to manage their own health and adjust their behaviour to reduce their risk of Covid-19 infection.

“By adjusting their behaviour, the community can contribute to slowing the progress of the pandemic, thereby relieving pressure on the facilities supporting severely impacted patients.”
