Sandton police officers pay their respects to Captain Choenyane
RIVONIA – Captain Choenyane was regarded as an officer who reserved his time at the police force to support, advise and encourage his team especially when the times were rough
A memorial service was held at Rivonia Catholic Church for Captain Lucas Choenyane of the Sandton Police Station.
Officers from numerous police stations in Gauteng and family members of Choenyane attended the service on January 21.
Sandton police officers were all in great disbelief when they received news of their colleague’s passing. The late captain, who had worked in the force for more than 30 years, passed away on January 16 from an unknown cause. Captain Tsingtsing welcomed everyone with an open prayer, which was followed by a series of church hymns.
Captain Choenyane was regarded as an officer who reserved his time at the police force to support, advise and encourage his team, especially when times were rough.
Captain Bheki Xulu of the station’s communication department said, “It was really shocking when we got the news of Captain [Choenyane’s] passing on Sunday. He was an officer who worked in our frontline services. He was a leader who was more than willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed, he assisted his community with honour and integrity and he will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.”
Station commander Brigadier Egen Moodley, shared a few memories of the late Captain Choenyane during the memorial service. Moodley described the Choenyane as a hard-working and caring officer that left no room for any error.
A family representative, Choenyane’s sister, concluded the service with her gratitude to all the friends, family members and officers who attended the memorial. Captain Choenyane was laid to rest on January 23 at Monsterlus, Limpopo.
