Three heroin peddlers arrested in Sandton

Police arrested three suspects found with drugs valued at R900000.

The provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) in Gauteng, Major-General Ebrahim Kadwa, has commended investigators for the arrest of suspects in a big drug bust with a value of R900 000.

Three suspects were arrested by a combined investigative unit in Sandton on charges relating to possession of heroin on January 24.

The trio, aged between 35 and 53 years, were apprehended through a collaborative effort between the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime (SOC) unit in Johannesburg, as well as the SAPS dog unit.

The arrests were made following the collaborating units’ investigation of information received about a foreign national who kept illicit drugs at a residence in Sandton while residing elsewhere.

When members arrived at the residence, they found a man and a woman.

Police were granted permission to search the residence, where they found one room locked and the suspects claimed to not have the keys as the room was rented by a friend.

The police unit gained entry into the locked room, where they found 6kg of heroin with an estimated value of R900 000, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

The third suspect was apprehended in a house at an adjacent complex, where officers found 150g of heroin with an estimated value of R16 000 upon searching the house.

Kodwa urges the public to report drug kingpins as well as any suspected drug-related activities to the authorities, so we continue to rid our communities of drugs.
