Clarise bounces to the provincial team

Clarise plans to play her best in all the games and hopes to show some girls that it is possible and never too late to work on your dreams.

Being selected for a provincial team is one of the biggest things one can achieve in their sports journey.
Clarise Bard has been in awe since she was chosen for the Gauteng basketball team.

Feeling excited and looking forward to representing her school proudly, Clarise thinks that her selection is a testament to her hard work and dedication.

“The trial process was rounds of elimination; about nine randomly selected teams took part in the trials. New teams were made after each elimination, and I believe that it was my hard work and dedication that got me this far with the help of Redhill School’s sports coaches and the new high-performance centre.”

She elaborated that she trained twice a week doing strength, mobility, and conditioning training, and twice a week they practised for an hour and a half in the morning.

“I was introduced to the basketball world when I moved to Redhill and immediately became obsessed. I learned that basketball provided the opportunity to build new friendships and connections and the chance to develop skills and discipline. I started late, but my passion and obsession with the game motivated me to pursue my goals.”

Clarise added she aspired to be a leader for her team.
“Our goal as a team is to get as far as possible and to all give 100% while learning resilience, building friendships and love for each other, improving our skills, and supporting each other.”

The Grade 10 learner said balancing academics and athletics while representing the team was important to her.

“The most important factor in having a balanced lifestyle is time management. If you manage your time well, you can accomplish anything without feeling overwhelmed.”
“I am going to be playing with talented and hard-working, and we will all help each other grow.”
