Grace and athleticism on full display in Sandton

Beyond the races, the Swimming Night Gala provided an opportunity for swimmers, coaches, and spectators to mingle and forge connections.

Sandton Seals Swimming Club, based in Crawford, hosted its swimming night gala, which involved swimmers showcasing their skills.

The night gala aimed to promote the sport, provide a platform for swimmers to demonstrate their abilities, and foster a sense of camaraderie among participants.

Kyle MacMillan, the head coach, said, “Our club night galas are spread out over our summer months, and there are eight in total. The purpose of the gala is to encourage all swimmers to try racing in a fun and relaxed environment.”

He added that they want swimmers to learn how to race and strive to improve. As swimmers improve their respective times, they earn more points, and swimmers can win trophies at the end of the club night season for earning the most points in their respective divisions.

“A highlight from our last club night for the summer season was ending the evening with fun races that promoted team building and friendship.”

Millan explained that the club teaches how to swim for children and adults, stroke correction, squad fitness training, competitive racing preparation and development, open water training, and training for triathletes.

“We have a very family-oriented approach to the way we deal with all our members. We have social events throughout the year to help get to know our members better and so swimmers can engage and make more friends. Our coaches strongly promote team building and include games within our lessons to build team unity and comradery.”
