Redhill School recently celebrated the outstanding achievements of its equestrian team at the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) Nationals.
The young athletes’ hard work and dedication highlighted their talents and brought pride to the Redhill community.
One notable performer was Gabriella Reisen, who excelled in multiple events.
Gabriella secured first place in the 90cm show jumping, second in the 90cm show jumping normal (horse class), and third in the 80cm equitation (horse class).
Reflecting on her success, Gabriella expressed her elation.

“Winning the 90cm show jumping felt amazing. I have worked hard with my horse, Capital Hamburg, and it was such a proud moment to see our efforts come together.”
The competition presented significant challenges, particularly the pressure of performing at a national level.
“Staying focused amid the pressure was tough. To overcome this, I relied on my training, stayed calm, and focused on one jump at a time.”
Preparing for such a major event required rigorous training and mental fortitude.

Gabriella practised five times a week, honing both her technical skills and her bond with her horse.
She said, “In equitation, it’s not just about clearing jumps but also form and technique. It demands concentration and precision.”
Balancing schoolwork and equestrian commitments is no easy feat.
“It can be tough, but I have learned to stay organised and prioritise my time,” she said.
With support from Redhill School, and understanding teachers, she manages her academics alongside her sports, including hockey and netball.
Gabriella credits her success to her strong support system, including her family and coach, Natalie Hogg.
“Their encouragement has been incredible.”
Looking ahead, she aims to compete in the 1m show jumping category next year.
Her advice for aspiring equestrians is: “Never give up and always believe in yourself and your horse. Riding requires patience and perseverance. Focus on building a strong bond with your horse and enjoy the ride.”
