In a statement released on March 28, Johannesburg Water reported that to counter the dire situation, the reservoir outlet has been throttled to assist in bolstering the system. However, due to the dangerously low reservoir levels, pumping to the tower has been halted, creating concerns for residents and businesses that rely on this vital water source.
The Johannesburg Water team, in collaboration with the Bulk supplier, is proactively working to divert additional flows to the Illovo reservoir complex in an effort to restore sufficient supply levels. Monitoring teams are closely observing the situation and have promised to communicate any necessary actions taken to alleviate the crisis.

As a result of the low reservoir levels, areas served by the Illovo reservoir are expected to experience varying degrees of water pressure, with some high-lying locations facing total outages.
To mitigate the impact on daily life, alternative water supply measures are being implemented to support affected residents and businesses. Johannesburg Water assures the community that efforts are ongoing to minimise disruptions until regular service can be fully restored.
Regular updates on the situation will be issued as it develops. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and conserve water during this challenging time.
