Water supply disruptions expected in Ward 90

Residents of Ward 90 should prepare for possible water shortages early next week as Rand Water conducts scheduled maintenance.

If you live in Ward 90, you might want to start planning ahead for some water disruptions early next week. Rand Water has announced scheduled maintenance that could temporarily affect your water supply, and residents are urged to stay informed and prepared.

Most of Craighall Park, a beloved neighbourhood within Ward 90, gets its water from the Dunkeld reservoir. Meanwhile, the rest of the ward relies on a different route, a pipeline from the Parktown 1 and 2 reservoirs, supplied through the Zwartkopjes booster station via the Stafford meter.

The maintenance work is set to begin at 06:00 on Tuesday, June 3, and will last for about 10 hours. During this time, water flow will be reduced, which might cause short-term outages or decreased pressure. Officials say it could take anywhere from five to fourteen days for the entire system to fully stabilise after the work is completed.

City councillors are actively working behind the scenes to get more details. They will hold an online meeting on Monday to clarify the scope of the maintenance and to determine how residents can best prepare.

For now, residents are encouraged to fill up containers with water, especially those living in elevated areas where gravity helps water flow naturally. “Low-lying areas will be least affected because gravity assists water movement there,” a city spokesperson explained. Still, it’s wise to be cautious and stay updated via official channels.

Local officials are committed to keeping disruptions minimal and ensuring the community stays informed every step of the way. If you experience a longer-than-expected outage or notice any issues, contact your local community office.
