Montrose Primary shines in academics, sport and culture

From academic honours to esports and community projects, Montrose’s 2025 was a year of remarkable achievement.

Montrose Primary School marked its 55th anniversary in 2025 with a year defined by academic distinction, sporting strength, and a vibrant cultural programme.

Learners, educators, and families embraced the theme Big Dreams, Bright Futures, and the results showed across every area of school life.

Academics remained a cornerstone of Montrose’s identity.

Top achievers from Grades 4 to 7 were honoured each term, while 16 Grade 7 learners earned scholarships for 2026 at leading high schools.

According to principal Sonette van Loggerenberg, Daniel Musadziruma received the prestigious Honours Blazer, and the school excelled in national competitions.

“Twenty-six learners ranked in the Top 100 of the Horizon Mathematics Competition, and 21 placed in the Top 6 nationally in the Natural Sciences Olympiad. Montrose also performed well in the SACEE Language Challenge and the Computer Olympiad Talent Search, earning 10 gold, 30 silver, and 65 bronze awards.”

She added that sport was another area of standout performance. Learners represented Gauteng in cricket, excelled in provincial soccer tournaments, and claimed victories in key netball competitions.

“Hockey talent shone too, with one learner making the Southern Gauteng U13A IPT team.”

Loggerenberg pointed out that esports continued its rapid rise at the school. Montrose hosted its first 12-hour LAN event in July, while the Minecraft and Rocket League teams secured second and third place, respectively, at Comic Con Africa.

“Cultural activities thrived, with strong results in the SACEE National Short Story Competition, success in public speaking, and a well-received Shrek production. The school also inducted 32 leaders for 2025, including executive heads Realeboga Motsepe and Ntando Adonis.”

Loggerenberg said the year’s achievements reflect the school’s long-standing commitment to excellence.

“Our learners consistently rise to the challenges we place before them. Their energy and curiosity remind us why Montrose has remained a school of choice for 55 years. We are excited to build on this momentum as we introduce our 2026 theme: One in a million.”

Montrose also strengthened its digital learning capabilities.

“Thirty-eight staff members earned Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert accreditation, and the school was named a Microsoft Showcase School for the second consecutive year.”

Community outreach remained central to school life, with learners supporting SPCA Civvies Days, shoe donation initiatives, and Mandela Day food projects.
