Sandown High School pass rate increases as Class of 2025 impresses

Sandown High School has recorded a significant improvement in its 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) results, rising by 6% from last year.

Sandown High School Class of 2025 elevated expectations, achieving a 79.2% pass rate, up from 73.2% in 2024, a six percent increase that principal and matric co-ordinator Toitey Baradzi described as an achievement they are extremely proud of.

Speaking to the publication, Baradzi said: “We’ve nurtured these learners for the past five or six years, guiding them in time management, punctuality, and completing assignments. Our role in school is to monitor and support them, but as they move on, they must take responsibility for their own success.”

Baradzi offered advice to the Class of 2025 as they step into adulthood. “In a tertiary environment, no one will be tracking whether you show up. Lecturers will care only about whether you submit work on time and pass. Time management and avoiding procrastination are essential.”

Looking ahead to the Class of 2026, Baradzi emphasised early preparation and focus. “Grade 12 is about preparing for your future. Leave distractions behind, social life, relationships, anything that detracts from your studies. Our goal is a 90% pass rate for next year, and, with dedication and what we have achieved this year, we believe it is achievable.”

Learners also shared their reflections on their matric journey.

Lufuno Chauke, one of the top achievers, described his journey as one of personal resilience. “My matric journey wasn’t easy, especially losing my mother during the start of my June exams, but with the support of my family, teachers, and community, I managed to achieve four distinctions and strong results in accounting, physics, and mathematics. My advice to the next Grade 12s is to stay strong in your faith and rely on your support system. Plan well and enjoy your last year.”

Another top achiever, Koketso Makofane, reflected on the intensity of matric. “Matric was a rollercoaster, with sleepless nights and a lot of work, but I passed with a Bachelor’s Degree pass and earned distinctions in Afrikaans, English, life science, and geography. Managing time is key.
“I even deleted my social media to focus fully on my studies. Hard work pays off, and I encourage everyone to believe in themselves.”
