Hundreds turn out for first Field Market of 2026

Soft rain doesn’t stop market goers from enjoying food, crafts and community as the popular Parkmore market begins another year of monthly trading.

Field Market is currently underway for its first event of 2026 today at Field and Study Park in Parkmore, drawing hundreds of visitors eager to explore a vibrant selection of local goods and food.

Set under the tall trees of the park, the market features more than 150 traders offering a wide variety of products.

Visitors browse between stalls selling freshly prepared food, baked goods, handmade jewellery, art, clothing, flowers, baby toys and even specialised dog food.

Despite a soft rain that comes and goes during the day, the atmosphere remains lively as families sit on picnic blankets, friends gather under umbrellas, and others relax at wooden tables while enjoying food and drinks from the vendors.

Organiser Handri Coolen said the market is beginning its yearly run after the festive break.

“We’re at the Field and Study Park today for our first market for the year. We start in March, and then we go all the way once a month until December.”

Coolen added that traders are particularly excited to be back after the last market of 2025 was cancelled due to bad weather.

We have more than 150 traders who have all gathered at the park today, and looking forward to a good day without rain. In December, we had to cancel our market because of rain, so everyone is really looking forward to a good trading day.”

The Field Market has become a popular community gathering where residents can support local entrepreneurs while enjoying a relaxed outdoor experience.

“We’re happy everyone is coming out today to be here and to join us. We’re thankful for the community that’s supporting us. We will be here next month on 11 April, every month for the second Saturday of the month.”
