Randburg police wish the community a safe Christmas

Police had successful convictions on a number of cases this year, and brigadier thanks officers for their work.

Randburg Police Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones would like to wish all her members and the community a happy Christmas and a prosperous new year after the hard work they did throughout 2022.

The members’ effort saw a reduction in crime in the policing area – contact and property crime had been reduced drastically, according to the previously released crime statistics.

Reduced numbers of robberies with aggravating circumstances showed that the measures put in place had worked to prevent and combat this category.

Furthermore, Jones thanked detectives and the National Prosecuting Authority for making sure that many of those who were arrested are being prosecuted, especially on crimes against women and children and trio crimes (carjackings, house robberies and business robberies).

This year the station had convictions of more than 15 years imprisonment in a number of cases that were investigated.

“Although we still have challenges with our community’s involvement in policing, I would like to thank the Community Policing Forum with its sector forums for being involved and working hard in articulating the importance of partnership. That means bridging the gap between the police and its community,” Jones said.

“During this festive season, I would like to encourage the community to be more vigilant when travelling and also when at home. The festive season is always a silly time when people become so relaxed.”

As many are going on holiday, Jones appealed to community members to:

  • Ensure that security devices are in working condition.
  • Ensure electric fences are in good and working condition.
  • Ensure rubble is removed as usual.
  • Always be on the lookout for suspicious people and vehicles.
  • Request neighbours to keep an eye when you go away for an extended period.
  • Do not leave anything visible inside the vehicles.
  • When using the remote to lock your car, please test all the doors before you leave.
  • Do not keep too much cash in your possession, premises or business.
  • Avoid confrontations.
  • Do not drink and drive.

“And to those who were saving on stokvels, please request the banks to divide the savings through to your accounts, not to share on specific places to avoid being robbed,” Jones added.
