Local ballet dancer earns a distinction in Cecchetti Advanced 1 ballet exam

Sandton’s based, ballet dancer’s future looks incredibly promising, and the people around her eagerly anticipate what’s next for this young talent.

Jenna Levin, a Grade 11 learner at Crawford International College Sandton, has achieved remarkable success in the world of ballet.

This year, she earned a distinction in her Cecchetti Advanced 1 ballet exam, a significant accomplishment that shows off her dedication and passion for the art form.

She said staying motivated was never an issue, even with the intense training required.

“My commitment to dance was also recognised at the prestigious Natalie Stern Awards on October 20, where I was celebrated for my outstanding artistry.”

Although she did not take home the top prize, Jenna was awarded runner-up for the highest exam percentage in Gauteng.

“I was quite surprised, especially since I completed the syllabus in just one year instead of two.”

She added her technical strengths, particularly in allegro and pirouettes, set her apart in the exam.

“In September, I also received A+ results in my solo performances at the Gauteng Dance Festival.”

Jenna pointed out that preparing for the festival was challenging, but the experience provided invaluable stage time.

“Each performance taught me something new.”

Outside of ballet, Jenna balances her academic studies with her dance training.

“I have learned to manage my time effectively from a young age.”

She also finds inspiration in renowned dancers such as Marianela Núñez of The Royal Ballet.

Jenna dreams of becoming a professional ballet dancer and eventually teaching ballet, while also pursuing a career as a businesswoman.

“My biggest achievement so far was dancing the pas de deux role in Les Sylphide, a highlight in my growing ballet journey.”
