Jamie Bolon takes gold and bronze at Gauteng JKA Karate Championships
Eight-year-old Jamie Bolon from Redhill School showcases his karate prowess, bringing home a gold and a bronze medal while gearing up for the National Championships.

An enthusiastic eight-year-old from Redhill School, Jamie Bolon, recently showcased his impressive karate skills at the Gauteng JKA Karate Championships and brought home a gold medal in kumite and a bronze in kata.
His achievements have earned him a spot to represent Gauteng at the National Championships in May.
Jamie started his karate journey at the tender age of four and has quickly become a dedicated martial artist, driven by his love for the sport.
“I just went to a lesson and I loved it so much; that’s how I started,” Jamie shared about his initial introduction to karate, which was not sparked by any specific inspiration but rather pure passion.
Since then, he has committed herself to training, attending extra classes and private lessons every Friday after school.
Despite his early nerves upon arriving at competitions, Jamie discovered that the thrill of competition fuelled his drive to succeed. “When we arrived, I was nervous; there were so many competitors but I felt like I could win.”
After finishing the final round of kata and earning a bronze medal, Jamie said he felt disappointed. However, his gold medal victory in kumite quickly lifted his spirits. “I was so happy when I got my gold medal for kumite. That made me feel so proud.”
With an eye on future competitions, Jamie aims for a double gold at the National Championships.
Outside the dojo, Jamie balances his time by also pursuing other interests such as soccer. “I love playing soccer and I want to be a professional one day,” Additionally, Jamie is a member of the chess team at his school, proving that his competitive spirit extends beyond karate.
With the unwavering support of his family and senseis, Jamie is well-equipped to tackle any challenge he faces.
“My mom takes me to all my classes and makes sure I have drinks and snacks. My senseis always help me and encourage me to do my best and push me to my limits and I am very grateful for that.”
