Tailored for power

In Sandton’s most exclusive mile, one tailoring studio is helping professionals lead with quiet confidence and sharp suits.

There is nothing in this world that boosts one’s confidence and mood more than knowing that you look good.
The old saying, ‘When you look good, you feel good,’ is indeed true, according to Muhammad Hoosain.

In the richest square mile in Africa, Sandton, The Consultant is quietly reshaping the way ambitious professionals dress, with precision, purpose, and passion.

For founder Hoosain, a suit is not just clothing. It is an extension of identity, a tool for self-possession, and the most powerful form of non-verbal communication.

“Suits have always fascinated me. They hold history, intention, and discipline. When tailored right, they do not just fit the body, they reflect who you are.”

Founded in 2019 while Hoosain was still working full-time at Deloitte, his passion began as a pursuit of excellence.

Now in 2025, he has transitioned into the brand full-time, establishing a studio that prioritises not just tailoring, but transformation.

“Everything at The Consultant starts with the suit, classic silhouettes, modern refinements, and a relentless commitment to fit, forming the foundation. Each garment is constructed with sharp attention to detail, clean lines, rich fabrics, and deliberate restraint.”

He added that this was tailoring that avoided gimmicks in favour of timeless strength.

Hoosain pointed out that as they are based in The Leonardo, their clients’ experience was personal and guided through an in-depth process that focused on more than measurements.

“It is about understanding lifestyle, posture, and presence. Every button, lapel, and cuff is considered with purpose. Our clients do not want to blend in. But they also don’t need to shout. We design for people who lead with quiet authority.”

Hoosain said his background in consulting added depth to his approach.

“I understand the world my clients operate in because I came from it. I know what a Monday boardroom feels like. I know how a suit needs to perform.”

He then shared five tips for how professionals should dress:

  • Fit is everything: A well-fitted suit says more about you than any label. Tailoring should enhance your natural shape, not restrict it.
  • Keep it classic: Invest in timeless styles with clean cuts that do not chase trends.
  • Dress with purpose: Your wardrobe should reflect your professional goals. Choose pieces that align with the authority and confidence you want to project.
  • Focus on detail: Buttons, lapels, and cuffs matter. These small elements communicate discipline, care, and personal pride.
  • Let the suit speak, not shout: Understated elegance always wins. Avoid loud colours or patterns. Aim for presence, not noise.
