Dorothy’s magical journey comes to life at Theatre on the Square
A spellbinding new production of The Wizard of Oz had audiences, young and old, marvelling at the magic, music, and adventure on July 1, as Pretoria Youth Theatre and Theatre on the Square brought the beloved classic to dazzling life.
The night of July 1 marked a special occasion at Theatre on the Square as the curtain rose on the eagerly anticipated The Wizard of Oz, presented by Pretoria Youth Theatre in collaboration with the renowned venue.
The opening night drew a lively crowd of theatre lovers, families, and fans of all ages, eager to embark on a magical journey over the rainbow.
This reimagined rendition of the timeless story delighted audiences with its vibrant performances, captivating music, and heartwarming storytelling.

The production featured a stellar cast, led by talented young actresses Virtuous Kandemiri and Inaa Karuaie, who alternated in the iconic role of Dorothy.

Karuaie’s dual role, as the Wicked Witch of the West, also shone, adding a thrilling edge to the show. Isabella Von Sichart charmed audiences as Glinda, the good Witch of the North, while the enigmatic Wizard was brought to life by Goitse deAngelo Mogale and Jaron Meyer, who shared the role on alternate performances.

The ensemble cast, including JP Kloppers, Jayden Bernard, Palesa Mkhari, Dillon Kritzinger, and many others, energised the stage with their dynamic portrayals of the Munchkins, Ozians, jitterbugs, and flying monkeys.
Their lively performances created a vibrant tableau that celebrated imagination, courage, and friendship.
